Medical Needs

The poorest of the poor live in the extremely remote mountainous jungles of Honduras.  This is where our hearts are.  The vast majority of these mountain people either walk for hours out of the jungles or they ride mountain mules or horses down to civilization.  Well, we carry healthcare to them.  We have the capacity, through our doners, to provide examinations and medications for a wide variety of healthcare needs.

I must confess that Kay and I make a pretty good team, but without a doubt… she’s the brains.  While attending UTA Nurse Practicioner school she held an unbelievable 4.0 GPA.  Unfortunately she didn’t get to graduate, as the Lord opened the door for our missions endeavor here.  While she had her Urgent Care Center in Texas she shadowed one-on-one with an MD for eight years learning much about diagnosis and treatments.  Before her time in the clinic she worked for 10 years as an ED nurse.

If there is an emergent patient, especially pertaining to cardiac or trauma, these usually fall onto my plate.  I’ve taught, and still do teach, ACLS, PALS, ITLS-Advanced, and Critical Care Paramedic classes.  Our patients get very well rounded patient care.

Spiritual Needs

Every patient that comes through our mobile clinic hears the Gospel story of how Jesus took our place in judgement and redeemed us back to God through His death, burial, and resurrection, and is given an opportunity to accept Christ as their personal Redeemer.  Some may already be devout Christians and will share prayer needs with us.  On one particular medical brigade held in the mountains of Pane over three and a half days, 81 patients prayed for forgiveness of their sins and asked Christ to be the Lord of their lives.

If we only address the medical needs and not the spiritual needs, we are nothing other than a humanitarian event.  We are more than that.  NOTHING is more important in our ministry than spreading the Gospel.
